Article in E&E Compendium 2014 - "A standard for contactless energy"

The interest in contactless energy transmission (wireless power) has increased significantly. However, the variety of different technologies and their implementation leads to uncertainty among manufacturers.  This uncertainty has delayed the worldwide expansion of contactless charging infrastructure that is essential for the consumer sector market breakthrough.


This paper provides an overview of current technologies and trends related to the topic of "Inductive power transmission". It shows why the final breakthrough of contactless power transfer in mass markets such as consumer and/or automotive sector implies standardization. Data will be presented, which is concerned with the standardization of contactless power transfer and displays their common and soemwhat different goals. Finally, the legal framework and associated technical challenges will be considered in the development of inductive power transfer systems.

Wireless power transmission offers many advantages particularly in medical technology. However, what is the difference between industry compatible standards and proprietary solutions?

The article has a basic introduction on the topic of inductive energy transfer and describes current developments and trends. For this, the approaches and goals are compared of three industry consortiums who are currently working on their own specifications with the aim of standardizing contactless power transfer. In addition, applications for contactless energy transfer are shown in the field of medical technology.

Article "Transmit Power and Data Wirelessly" in "MED engineering"

Currently, power and data are transmitted only wirelessly with low power ratings in the field of medical technology. In an article in the issue 5-6 2012 of the medical journal "MED engineering" Carl Hanser Verlag, reported on new developments of wireless power transmission of up to 500 watts at RRC power solutions and first-time applications using this technique in the medical field.

Inductive Power Transmission System with Stabilized Output Voltage

In this paper, a primary and secondary series compensated inductive power transmission system with primaryside zero phase angle control and a loss-free clamp (LFC) circuit on the secondary-side is described. The effects of nonsynchronous tuning are analyzed and intendet detuning is proposed to guarantee controllability. The functional principle of the LFC circuit, which is required for output voltage stabilization over a wide load range and varying magnetic coupling, is explained. Finally, theoretical results are verified experimentally.
